GSCA announces new Head of School

Good Shepherd Christian Academy announced that Mr. Peter Alvarez will be join the faculty as the new Head of School, beginning August 1, 2018.

Dr. Tom Edmunds, the school’s chair, enthusiastically endorsed the appointment of Mr. Alvarez, pointing to the desire to grow the reach of GSCA in our region, and the goal to continuously improve the program, as the reasons for the hire.

Mr. Alvarez holds undergraduate degrees in Bible/Religion (University of Valley Forge) and Philosophy (University of Illinois), and a master’s degree in Philosophy & Ethics (Boston University), all awarded with academic honors.  He completed doctoral research in cognitive neuropsychology (Fuller Seminary) and participated in a cohort for private school leadership (Gordon College). Mr. Alvarez brings to GSCA over a decade of K-12 leadership experience.  He has taught, coached, served as academic dean and school principal at several prestigious Christian schools, including the largest classical Christian school in the United States. In addition to working with K-12 schools, Mr. Alvarez is an adjunct professor, an educational consultant. He is currently pursuing a certificate in catechesis through University of Notre Dame’s McGrath Institute for Church Life.

Peter is married to Christine and is the father of a son, Giovanni.

Good Shepherd Christian Academy, located at 490 Route 57W in Washington, NJ is a ministry of Faith Discovery Church and has been providing Christ-centered education for 39 years. The school serves community families with children from infancy through high school.
